Train on AVImark to Gain Employment in a Vet Office

Since its initial rollout in 1989, the AVImark Veterinary Management System computer software program has been adopted on an increasing basis by veterinary practices across the country. Sold by the Piedmont, Missouri-based McAllister Software Systems, the software is used by veterinary office managers and technicians to schedule appointments, invoice clients, inventory drugs and print out a wide variety of reports, to name a few functions. Knowing how to use the software can make it easier to get a veterinary office job.

Download a free demo of the AVImark software program through the McAllister Software Systems website. This will give you a sense of what the overall program includes, which may help you determine which specific areas you will need the most training for.

Purchase some of the AVImark training tutorial CDs that are available for sale on the AVIshop portion of the company's website. These computer-based tutorials cost $39 per CD (as of 2010) and offer more in-depth instruction in specific program areas. For example, the Appointment Calendar training CD covers how to create and check appointments using the software program, while the Controlled Scheduled Drugs training CD instructs users how to handle purchase orders for controlled substances.

Volunteer your services to help with the office management duties at a private veterinary practice or animal shelter that has already purchased and continues to use the AVImark software. While volunteering your time, you will have the opportunity to see how the software works and gain some hands-on experience.

Ask the veterinarian who owns the practice if he or she would be willing to let you schedule a phone training session with one of AVImark's over-the-phone trainers for sometime after normal business hours. According to the AVImark website, these sessions cost $50 for the first hour and an additional $20 for each additional half-hour (as of 2010).
