Resumes for Oil Refinery Safety Jobs

Writing resumes for oil refinery safety jobs requires an attention to detail and a strict adherence to format. Most resume readers are only going to give a resume about ten to 20 seconds before moving on to the next, so readability is important. All resumes must have four specifically written sections: the objective, summary or profile, work history and education section. For a position in an oil refinery, there are unique details such as equipment and regulation knowledge that must be communicated.

Objective

The objective needs to do three things for the reader: identify the candidate, outline his experience and state the job he is interested in. Use the following as an example.

"Refinery Safety Professional, with experience directing health and safety programs as well as maintaining readiness of fire protection and emergency response system, seeking management position."

Summary or Profile

The summary or profile section needs to flesh out the experience alluded to in the objective. Create a bullet list of eight to 12 items that give the reader a sense of your experience, technical skills and abilities. Topics that should be covered for an oil refinery safety position include familiarity with OSHA regulations, local, state and federal regulatory compliance issues, and related issues such as management and communication skills, and years of experience in the field.

Detail Your Work History

The work history section is a straightforward detailing of your job history. List the title, company and years active for each position along with your duties and accomplishments for each position. Highlight any accomplishments that allow you to stand out from the crowd. Have you been a member of a Refinery Leadership Team? Have you helped to create a departmental operating budget? These types of details will give you a leg up on the competition.

Present Your Educational Background

For an oil refinery safety job, you should have a Bachelor of Science degree in Safety or related field. List the institution and the years attended along with the degree title. Additionally, list any specialized or technical courses such as Certification as a Safety Professional, Industrial Fire Instructor Certification and/or First Aid Certification.
