Price Roof Coating Jobs

By now you already know that everyone is "going green." One of the most popular green things homeowners can do is having their roofs coated. Not only is this beneficial for money saving homeowners who want to be more energy efficient, but it's also created new jobs in the industry. Perhaps you have even considered starting your own roof coating business. After adding up all expenses for getting started, you'll need to figure out how to price your services.

Figure out how much materials for each job will cost before giving a quote. You will need to add your materials cost into your final price.

Start by deciding if you would do better to charge by the hour or by the job. Most sub-contractors charge by the job, because charging by the hour means that finishing a job quickly and efficiently means less money.

Decide how much you would charge by the hour, and for each job figure out how many hours you think the job will take. Multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you expect to spend. Add the cost of materials and the cost of extra employee labor to that figure to come up with your quote.

Go online for another option in figuring up your quotes. Visit a site with a career salary calculator, such as careerbuilder.com. Type in "roof coating," and then choose the career that best matches what you do. The site will give you the estimated yearly salary for someone in your field. You will likely see three numbers: the lowest pay range, the median range, and the upper end. If you have several years of experience you would choose somewhere between the middle and last numbers to get your average yearly salary. Then, figure out how much to charge per job by figuring out how much you'd have to charge in order to get your target salary. For instance: If you figure out that you should be making $60,000 a year, take 60,000 and divide that number by 12 months in a year. That equals $5,000 a month. Divide that number by the number of days in the month, and then by the number of jobs you can do in a day. So if the month has 31 days and you can do two jobs per day you need to charge around $80 per job. This is not in any way an accurate quote for what YOU will charge, but it gives a simple formula for deciding on a number.

Call other roof coaters in the area in which you live and have them give you a quote. You don't have to tell them that you are the competition doing market research. Just say that you are getting several quotes for a certain size job.
