Part Time Job Ideas for Moms

Finding a part-time job that lines up with a family's hectic schedule can be challenging. Moms who work have the additional challenge of finding a babysitter or working their job hours around their husband's work schedule so he'll be home with the kids. Even so, there are many jobs that enable moms to supplement their income without taking away from the family.

Working from Home

Work-at-home situations are wonderful for a mom who wants to make money while still being accessible to her family.

An outgoing and organized mom should consider direct sales as a good way to make money. With direct sales, you can set your own hours, name your own income, and work as much or as little as necessary. However, you will need child care if you conduct home parties or face-to-face meetings, and your income can fluctuate, especially when starting out. Sometimes there are fees before you get started.

If you have a skill or craft, you can earn money selling items at local fairs or online.

In-home child care can be a good way to make part-time money from home. Since most day-care centers and child-care homes prefer to take children full time, there's a need for providers who watch children part time. Find another mom or two who work part time and offer to watch their children while they work. Set up your service as a "mother's day out" and provide set hours to registered customers or on a first-come, first-served basis. After-school care gives you a chance to work set hours while watching several children for a specific amount of time.

Figure out the hours which best suit you and set up your child-care business around them. You will need to check local codes before starting.

Working Away from Home

A mom who is home with several small children all the time might prefer a part-time job that allows her to get out of the house.

Paper routes allow the whole family to participate. Children can help with rolling the papers and securing them, and can even ride along in the car.

House-cleaning services also allow flexible hours. If you live near a resort town or in a vacation destination, cleaning hotels and condominiums could offer a nice part-time job.

If you have school-age children, considering applying for a job with the school system that will allow you the same holidays off as your children.
