Ideas for Summer Jobs for Teenage Boys

Making money as a teenage boy is easy. Whether you want a "real" job working for a paycheck or just some extra cash, there's all kinds of jobs out there you can do over the summer. Looking around your own neighborhood is one of the easiest ways to find a good summer job.

Lawnmowing and Landscaping

You can probably get a decent lawnmower from a pawn shop for under $20, and a gas-powered string trimmer will run you about the same. Pick up a pair of bush trimmers while you're at it. Walk door-to-door or put signs up around your neighborhood advertising your lawn-care business, and you'll start getting phone calls to come mow grass, edge lawns, and trim bushes so your neighbors don't have to bother with it.

Car Wash and Detail

Use the door-to-door tactic and hang up signs to advertise the fact that you'll wash cars for cash. Detailing takes a lot longer and involves going inside the car, vacuuming, wiping down all the surfaces and even getting into the cracks and holes along the dash with a cotton swab. You'll have to wipe down the windows and maybe even clean the seats, but you can charge anywhere from $50 to $80 for this service.

Cleaning

Offer to clean out messy garages or cluttered backyards. You can clean floors, dust furniture, take out trash, or sweep the driveway. Any little cleaning tasks could earn you a few bucks if you ask the right neighbor.

Baby-Sitting, Pet-Sitting, or House-Sitting

If you like kids or animals, you can offer to watch your neighbors' loved ones for a few hours a day. Dogs need lots of attention, and if your neighbors are away all day at work, they'd probably be more than happy to let you walk their pooch during the afternoon. If you know someone going on vacation, offer to watch the house for them while they're gone in exchange for a few dollars.

The Mall

During the summer when kids are out of school, the mall is usually in need of some extra help. You could get a job at your favorite store, or work at the food court. And the best part of working at the mall is that you usually get discounts.

Fast Food or Restaurants

Try being a cashier at a fast food joint or apply at a restaurant to be a cook, dishwasher or busser. Even if you're not old enough to serve alcohol in your state, most restaurants will hire you as a host to show customers to their seat. If you are old enough to serve alcohol, you can be a server.
