Dress for a Minimum Wage Job Interview

Because of stiff competition in the job market, you may not get a second chance if you make a mistake. Even when you are searching for an entry-level position, first impressions can help improve your chances at landing the job. Choose your attire carefully as you dress for a minimum wage job interview. Keep your clothing conservative to make a positive impression at the interview.

Find out the dress code and style of the business, if possible. Make a note of office dress code when you pick up an application. Note how current employees dress in a retail business by visiting the store. Call a human resources department and ask about the dress code, if necessary.

Dress at the level of current employees or slightly better. This helps the interviewer envision you fitting in as an employee. If you dress more casually than the current employees, you may give the impression that you do not care about your appearance.

Wear conservative attire, even for a minimum-wage position interview. Choose a basic business suit. Keep the colors neutral -- navy, back or tan are all safe choices. Men should wear a dress shirt and neutral tie.

Tone down the accessories to make a good first impression. Keep jewelry minimal, choose conservative shoes and avoid excessive hair ornaments. Skip body scents like cologne, trim your nails, keep make-up conservative and fix your hair in a basic style.
