Job Description of a Prepress Specialist

Prepress specialists are employed by publishing, advertising and other firms that perform graphic designs services. These individuals ensure that all documents, graphics and other files needed for the execution of a project are prepared. Prepress specialists often report directly to the production or project manager.

Document Creation

Using a variety of equipment, including desktop publishing software and scanners, prepress specialists prepare all documents needed for a project.

Quality Assurance

Maintaining knowledge of the employer's standards and best practices, the prepress specialist ensures that all prepared documents meet the standards of quality, informing the project manager of any issues that may occur.

Archival

A prepress specialist is responsible for the organization and safe keeping of all files used in the creation of a document, including artwork and copy, maintaining discretion if project is of a confidential nature.
