An account executive concentrates upon maintaining good relationships with a company's clients while seeking to acquire new accounts. They work for many types of businesses, specializing in many different fields. An account executive seeking to truly deliver for a company must thoroughly understand its business.

Account executives work in all types of industries, building good relations with the company's accounts and acquiring new ones. Most account executives report to the company's account manager. The number of account executives assigned to any company will depend upon its size. Though precise duties will vary according to the type of business, maintaining customer accounts is always the majority of the job responsibility.

Advertising Account Executives

An account executive working for an advertising company functions as a liaison between the company and its accounts. The executive is responsible for overseeing all advertising aspects and working on campaign projects. He is in charge of monitoring the work of other employees and campaign-related work.

Marketing Account Executives

A marketing account executive is proficient in sales and also works with the development of new products and services. Marketing executives work at boosting sales and revenues through initiating contact with new clients and attempting to obtain their business. A marketing executive also works on marketing campaigns.

PR Account Executives

A public relations account executive works at promoting a company to the public to obtain new business and increased revenue. This includes working with advertising agencies to promote the business and finding and implementing creative ways to get the company's name out to the public. A public relations executive's main goal is to increase a company's sales and revenue.

Salary

The average salary of an account executive is between $36,285 and $57,468, according to Payscale.com. Many companies do not require account executives to hold degrees, but they do prefer hiring executives with at least one to four years of experience.
