Deal With a Coworker Who Doesn't Do Their Job

Many jobs will have you working side-by-side with someone who irritates you or who doesn't do her job. Whether your coworker surfs the web for most of her shift, or fails to perform the tasks for which she is hired, her performance may reflect badly on you and you will need her to make adjustments. Coworkers who fail to perform can cause you increased stress and can even lead you to quit your job, but adjustments can be made before it comes to that.

Ignore his lack of work ethic if you aren't his supervisor and his performance doesn't directly affect you. It isn't your responsibility to make sure your coworker is doing his job.

Suggest or show your coworker the adjustment that will help her do her job better if you are affected by her performance. If she doesn't make the adjustment, ask her to do it again and tell her how her performance reflects badly on you.

Tell your supervisor about your coworker's behavior if he continues to slack off. Your supervisor should be able to make the appropriate adjustments.

Ask your boss for a transfer if your coworker continues her unproductive ways. If she is completely unchangeable and your boss doesn't fire her, you could benefit from leaving the situation altogether.
