The Best Jobs for Bilingual Women

Bilingual women have an undeniable upper hand in the job field. By being able to speak two languages, a career woman has several stable, high-paying careers available to her, especially in parts of the country where a significant portion of the population speaks another language.

Interpreter

Interpreters are used in a variety of fields, from hospitals, to government agencies and police departments. According to Salary.com, the median U.S. salary for a medical interpreter is $34,000 to $42,000 a year.

Translator

Translators work with written texts by translating a work in one language to another. Salary.com reports the median U.S. salary for a translator is $38,000 to $51,000 a year.

Court Reporter

According to the American Observer, there is a shortage of court reporters in the United States, and the need for bilingual court reporters is on the rise. A certified court reporter earns $384 a day.

Social Services

Because low-income families are disproportionately minorities in many parts of the country, bilingual women may find an abundance of jobs in the social services field. This includes jobs as social workers, shelter administrators, counselors and child welfare advocates. Salaries vary greatly according to job title and required education.

Hospitality

Bilingual career seekers may find jobs working at hotels or resorts. Because the U.S. tourist industry attracts visitors from all over the world, workers who speak more than one language are a plus at these facilities.

Government

The U.S. government has many positions that are open only to bilingual workers. Positions include park guide, census worker, telephone interviewer, investigator, language assistant and health specialist. Salaries vary.
