Banking Analyst Job Description

Banking analysts perform a crucial duty for investment firms. They research information and write reports to help companies make good investment decisions that will bring in profits. They analyze annual reports of the company and help them focus on which investment decisions would be most appropriate and effective. Typically these individuals specialize in a certain area such as retail, finance or energy.

Education

In order to be a competitive applicant for a banking analyst position you need a bachelor's degree in finance, banking, business, economics, accounting or another relevant field. You also need to demonstrate basic computer proficiency.

Skills

Banking analysts need excellent written and verbal communication skills. These individuals need to work well under pressure, place a strong emphasis on details, and learn quickly. Since so much of their work is basic in accounting, they need to think analytically and be effective problem-solvers. In addition to this, banking analysts need thorough technical skills, be able to research effectively, and be adept at data management. Furthermore, they need to be able to work well in both team and individual settings.

Duties

Investment banking analysts prepare thorough financial analysis models and reports. They research in order to identify potential markets and market trends that may help them determine good investments for the company to make. These individuals participate in marketing events for the company, make client presentations, and prepare entire marketing strategies. Banking analysts research price, distribution, close deals, and other transactions and make suggestions for the company to improve revenue accordingly.

Work Environment

Typically, banking analysts work in comfortable office settings. They may spend much of their time in front of a computer, which can lead to lower back pain, eyestrain, and hand and wrist issues. Typically, they work a standard 40-hour work week, but overtime may be required on occasion. Some banking analysts chose to work part-time.

Salary

According to a 2010 survey from payscale.com, the average annual salary for a banking analyst ranges from $55,901 to $104,100 per year. A significant portion of this typically comes from a profit-sharing option or a bonus based on how much money they bring in for the company. This equates to a hourly rate that ranges from $15.40 to $52.07 per hour. As with all salary information, however, these figures can vary significantly based on employer, geographic location, years of experience and other factors.
