Apply for a Job With the State of California

California has one of the largest departments of labor in the nation. There always seems to be plenty of offices that need staffing in the state of California, so job opportunities are plentiful. But the hiring process isn't easy. You'll need to learn how to do a lot of stuff online and be available to take tests and most of all, you'll need some patience. This article will show you how to apply for a job in the state of California

How to Apply for a Job With the Sate of California

Gather all your pertinent documents and place them or copies of them in a special folder. You'll need documents like a social security card, copy of your birth certificate, education certificates, California driver's license in most cases, and maybe even previous pay stubs. If you were previously on California's unemployment program, provide documentation of that, too. Veterans will need a copy of their DD214 to get any veterans preference points.

Log on and register in the state website provided in the additional resources below. Start searching by beginning with the "hot jobs" section because applicants are hired much faster in those positions. From there you can move onto the other job search buttons on the site. Write down the jobs that seem interesting to you.

Check the exam bulletin schedule. See if any of the jobs you wrote down are on the schedule. California state jobs require entrance exams, so be careful with your scheduling if you are applying for multiple jobs. Find the ones you are most interested in and click the "apply" for exams button.

Fill in the application information as best as you can. Certain characteristics and demographics that apply to you can be beneficial to your hiring rating. For example, veterans get extra points on their application, giving them an advantage in the hiring pool. Wait for your notification to arrive in your home mailbox to see if you qualify to take the exam.

Show up to your exam location at least an hour early and alone. Parking can be scary and some locations aren't very easy to find. By showing up an hour early you can get ahead in line and get settled. Don't bring anyone with you because some exams, like the corrections officer exam, can take up to 8 hours for the first session.
